A VIROSE é uma Associação Cultural sem Fins Lucrativos, baseada no Porto, Portugal, dedicada à arte e suas contaminações com a técnica. A maior parte das vezes a Virose é designada simplesmente como uma organização para a teoria e a prática dos velhos e dos novos media (Virose - arte, teoria, prática). Reúne artistas, programadores, arquitectos e outros e gere um servidor com diversas áreas, incluindo um e-zine (www.virose.pt/vector). Desde o início do projecto, em 1997, a questão principal centrou-se na tentativa de compreender as chamadas artes digitais no campo mais alargado da arte. Os problemas da net.arte, arte digital/numérica ou o que quer que lhes possamos chamar, não são tão diferentes, e ainda menos opostos, à questão ontológica que juntou (e apartou) arte e técnica. É possível falar do plural das artes sem pensar também o seu singular? E é possível pensar a singularidade de cada arte sem o seu plural?
Este é o campo de acção da VIROSE.

VIROSE is a non-profit organization dedicated to art and media technology based in Porto, Portugal. Normally is designated simply as an organization for the theory and practice of the old and the new media (Virose - art, theory, practice). It gathers artists, programmers, architects and others and runs a server with several areas, including an e-zine [http://www.virose.pt/vector] and free hosting areas. Since the beginning of the project, in 1997, the main question was to understand digital arts in the broader sense of art. The problems of net.art, digital art or whatever are no so different, and even less opposed, to the ontological question that put together (and apart) art and technic. Is it possible to speak about a plural of the arts without thinking also its singular? And is it possible to sustain the singularity of each art without its plural?
This is the work field of VIROSE ORG.
